Moving on Our Mission
Vehicles purchased with Rotary donation put on miles for CFWshops
August 2003

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Rotary Club #9 of Minneapolis, Rotary District 5950 and Rotary International, have together donated $35,000 to SHEF. Their generous donation was used to purchase a Toyota pickup truck and a Yamaha motorbike for our Kenya offices. These vehicles are helping us to transport life-saving medicine to our CFWshops located throughout Kenya.

The Toyota pickup truck travels many miles each day along a medicine delivery route. This vehicle was chosen for its fuel efficiency and cargo area but also for its four-wheel drive capability, which is needed to navigate the terrain in rural areas of Kenya. A manager from our Nairobi Kenya office also uses the truck to visit the CFWshops and provide continuous on-the-job training and business counseling to franchisees.

The Yamaha motorbike, which is less expensive to run, is based at our regional field office in Embu Kenya. A field supervisor uses the motorbike daily to visit the CFWshops and provide support to franchisees. During the rainy season when many rural roads are inaccessible even to four-wheel drive vehicles, the motorbike gets through to deliver medicine supplies to our shops.

The opportunities and advantages created by these vehicles are already quite evident. Great thanks to the Rotary for making all of this possible.

About SHEF
Based in Minneapolis Minnesota, the Sustainable Healthcare Enterprise Foundation (SHEF) is improving access to basic health services and essential medicine, for children and their families in the developing world. SHEF accomplishes this by perfecting the franchise operating system of its CFWshops, and making the system available to other organizations and businesses throughout the developing world. The CFWshops are all located in Kenya Africa and a rapid expansion plan is underway to increase the number of shops throughout the country. SHEF is also launching a Medical Franchise Training Institute where organizations from around the world can learn how to adapt the CFWshops system to the needs of the communities where they operate.
